T1 - Theory of X-ray magnetic circular dichroism in the L3 edge of ferromagnetic Lu compounds and a mixed valence compound CeFe2

N2 - We calculate X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectra in the Lu L3 edge of ferromagnetic compounds Lu2Fe14B and LuFe 2, and in the Ce L3 edge of a mixed valence compound CeFe 2. The calculated results are in good agreement with the available experimental ones, although spectral structures are mostly smeared out by the large lifetime broadening of the 2p3/2 core hole. We then calculate the spectrum of L3-M5 resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) and its MCD (MCD-RXES) for these materials, and predict theoretically that the experimental observation of excitation spectra of MCD-RXES is a powerful tool to detect fine structures of XMCD beyond the lifetime broadening of the 2p3/2 core hole.
