A Proposal of Hybrid Excitation Variable Flux Memory Motor Having Field Winding with Magnetization Function in the Rotor

This paper proposes a novel hybrid excitation variable flux memory motor (HE-VFMM) combining the hybrid excitation motor (HEM) and the variable flux memory motor (VFMM). Variable flux motor can be classified by their configuration into such as the VFMM and the HEM. However, both motors respectively have challenging points to solve in traction applications. The proposed HE-VFMM combined HEM with VFMM has potential to improve the problems and drawbacks of conventional VFMMs and HEMs. In addition, the proposed HE-VFMM offers higher efficiency than that of conventional HEM and an IPMSM mounted in Prius 4th-generation over a wide operating area. In this research, comprehensive characteristics of the proposed HE-VFMM are investigated. Finally, advantages of the proposed HE-VFMM are shown by comparison to the conventional HEM and the IPMSM mounted in Prius 4th-generation.
