Theory of the ultrafast ablation of graphite films

Abstract

The microscopic processes leading to laser ablation in graphite films were theoretically studied. A new ablation mechanism was observed at energies below the threshold for the destruction of graphite planes. The resulting ablation process is very different from ablation at higher deposited energies.
