Theory of magnetic circular dichroism in resonant X-ray emission spectra at L3 edge of mixed valence compound CeFe2

Abstract

Theoretical calculations are performed for magnetic circular dichroism in resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy (MCD-RXES) and magnetic circular dichroism in x-ray absorption spectroscopy (MCD-XAS) in a mixed valence ferromagnetic compound CeFe2. It is shown that the excitation spectrum of Ce L 3-M5 MCD-RXES is close to a less broadened version of the Ce L3 MCD-XAS, which reveals the structure originating from the Ce 4f2 configuration invisible by the conventional Ce L3 MCD-XAS measurements.
