Abstract

Dendrimer-type viologen (V²⁺.D.) was prepared from mesitylene and 4.4′-bipyridyl. Electroreduction of V²⁺.D. gave the corresponding quinoid (V⁰.D.), which promoted Pd-catalyzed homocoupling of aryl bromides Ar-Br to give the corresponding biaryls Ar-Ar in moderate to good yields.
