Abstract

Cemented carbide has many excellent properties, such as high strength, high hardness and so on. However, it is difficult to apply conventional surface finishing or surface modification methods for the cemented carbide. In this paper, a new surface finishing by large-area electron beam(EB) irradiation is proposed, and the possibility of surface smoothing and surface modification was discussed. The experimental results clarified that high-efficient surface smoothing was possible under the proper EB conditions. The repellency and the releasability of molded resin could be improved by large-area EB irradiation.
