SUPERCONDUCTING TUNNELING IN Y-Ba-Cu-O SYSTEM.

Abstract

Electron tunneling study on high-T//c superconductor Y-Ba-Cu-O system with the onset transition temperature of about 95 K has been carried out. The observed energy gap is slightly larger than that expected from the BCS theory. The sample used in this tunneling experiment with a nominal composition of (Y//1// minus //xBa//x)//2CuO//4// minus //y with x equals 0. 45 and unknown y was prepared by the following procedure. A prescribed amount of powders of Y//2O//3, BaCO//3 and CuO was mixed for about an hour, pressed under 6. 4 ton/cm**2 into pellet shape and sintered at 1000 degree C in the air for 3 hours.
