Abstract

The optimum conditions for plug-type conveying of granular materials through a pipe were investigated. A theoretical equation for calculating the air pressure required to convey a single plug was derived. Its validity was confirmed experimentally by conveying single plugs of calcium carbonate powder through horizontal and vertical pipes with internal diameters of 66, 78, and 99 mm.
