Abstract

We investigate the spatiotemporal stability of steady states in one-way open coupled map lattices. It is found that H-norm concept, which has been used as an important index in the filed of robust control theory, allows us to grasp the mechanism of spatial bifurcations in the one-way open coupled map lattices. We show that the spatial bifurcations in open flow models occur only when H-norm of transfer function of each site is greater than 1. The computer simulations with a coupled logistic map lattice and a coupled Henon map lattice are in good agreement with our theoretical results.
