Abstract
Raman scattering spectra of Sr14-xCaxCu24O41 (x = 0 and 11.5) have been measured. In the (a,a), (b,b), and (c,c) spectra, the intra-molecular vibrations for the ladders (Sr/Ca)2Cu2O3 and the 1D chains CuO2 have been clearly observed below 700 cm-1. By comparing the number of the observed peaks with the results of the factor group analysis, the crystallographic symmetry of the ladder is F222 for both the x, while that of the chain changes from Amma to F222 with increasing x. From the results of the pressure dependence for x = 0, it can be inferred that the lifetime of phonons decreases with increasing applied pressure.
