Abstract

The oxalate coprecipitation method was applied to the preparation of high Tc superconducting oxide powder. The process of forming the oxide through pyrolysis and subsequent heat treatment was studied in connection with powder characterization. The fine oxalate coprecipitate, consisted of a Y-Ba complex and Cu oxalates. The pyrolysis proceeded mostly by dehydration and decomposition of Cu oxalate and Y-Ba oxalate resulting in CuO and BaCO//3 phases at 500 degree C for 2h without changing particle shape. Heat treatment above 850 degree C was favorable to obtain oxide powder with single phase. Its particles were less than 2 mu m in size when treated below 925 degree C and grew to more than 10 mu m above 950 degree C with a plate-like shape.
