    Abstract

    4-Alkylamino-5,6-dihydrobenzo[h]quinazolines (IIIa—k) were synthesized by the reaction of 4-chloro-5,6-dihydrobenzo[h]quinazoline (IIc) with primary alkylamines. Screening of 4-amino-(IIa), 4-hydroxy- (IIb), and 4-(2-hydroxyethylamino)-5,6-dihydrobenzo[h]quinazoline (lid), as well as IIc and IIIa—k, for antireserpine action indicated that lid, IIIa, and IIIh exhibited effective antidepressant activity.
