Abstract

Salts of various methyl-substituted ammonium compounds consisting of simple monovalent inorganic anions were found to form an ionic plastic phase just below their melting and decomposition temperature. In this phase, the cations and/or anions perform rapid isotropic reorientation as well as self-diffusion. The present work investigates the ionic plastic phase of ionic crystals containing bulky trimethylethylammonium ions.
