Organic superconductor κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]I: Study under the uniaxial compression

Abstract

The effect of a uniaxial compression on formation of the superconducting state in κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]I was studied by resistance measurements. The response to the uniaxial compression was shown to be anisotropic within the conducting ac - plane. The compression along a-axis leads to a structural change, which we relate with suppression of the superstructure, responsible for the formation of the insulating state. In the transformation region, two superconducting phases with Tc, of about 5 K and about 7 K coexist. The lattice transformation is less pronounced when the compression is applied along the c-axis.
