Nonlinear optical crystal-line writing in glass by yttrium aluminum garnet laser irradiation

Abstract

A study was performed on nonlinear optical crystal-line writing in glass by yttrium aluminum garnet laser irradiation. The polarization optical microphotographs were measured and uniform phase retardation for a whole length of crystal lines was found. It was suggested that crystal lines by laser irradiation were formed in single-domain crystalline phase with second-order nonlinearity.
