New convergence criterion for the Gauss-Seidel method

Abstract

It is well known that the accuracy of the solution obtained by the Gauss-Seidel Method is wholly governed by the boundary conditions of the structural system, and, therefore, the user of the solver must carefully set the convergence condition after the inspection of the problem. On the other hand it is also well known that the convergence rate of the method is very stable except at the beginning of the iterations. By using this characteristic, new convergence criterion is theoretically obtained, and new iteration procedure with this new criterion based on the Gauss-Seidel Method is presented.
