Modelling and simulation framework for pollution control of chemical processes

Abstract

During process design, it is possible to evaluate and control pollution that might occur during actual operation. This paper presents computer-aided design framework that enables the design team to define process design model elements and to measure possible pollution at each design step using performance indexes of pollution measures as mapped to process variables. Modelling methodology, called POOM, on the basis of object-oriented concepts is utilised to construct the design models of the underlying process. Process variables and performance indexes are defined within each model building block (structure unit), and used to evaluate pollutions for different design and operation alternatives.
