Microstructures formed on stainless steel by femtosecond laser irradiation

Abstract

Various types of microstructures are formed on material surfaces by femtosecond laser irradiation. The formation conditions depend on the laser irradiation conditions, the materials, and so on. In this study, microstructures formed on stainless steel by femtosecond laser irradiation were investigated. The laser fluence and the number of irradiated laser pulses were changed to explore the microstructure formation conditions. Different types of periodic structures were found to be formed depending on the laser fluence and the number of irradiated laser pulses.
