Abstract

The micelle catalyzed hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl picolinate (PNPP) and p-nitrophenyl acetate (PNPA) in water/ β-cyclodextrin (β-CD)/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) systems were investigated spectrophotometrically at pH 7.02, 25°C. The pseudophase model for micellar catalysis was exployed to quantitatively treat the results obtained. Comparison of the results indicates that neither β-CD nor the β-CD complex form part of the micelles, the aggregation number being the same whether the micelles are in the presence or in the absence of the β-CD and/or the β-CD complex.
