Abstract

The third-order intermodulation (IM3) distortion in a high-output-power uni-travelling-carrier refracting-facet photodiode (UTC-RFPD) at 40 GHz was measured. Two dual-mode light sources were used to allow for direct measurements even of a very small IM3. The results reflected the fact that the UTC-RFPD has highly linear I/O characteristics even at high optical input levels.
