Abstract
Hematite-ilmenite (α-Fe2O3-FeTiO3) solid solution system is one of the candidates for high-temperature magnetic semiconductors. The intermediate composition, Fe1.2Ti 0.8O3, is known to have the maximum saturation magnetization at low temperature. We have successfully prepared well-crystallized Fe1.2Ti0.8O3 and Fe 1.2Ti0.8Fe2O3 bilayered films by using reactive helicon plasma sputtering. The Fe1.2Ti 0.8O3 films without Fe2O3 layers showed lower TC of about 200 K, while the TC of Fe 1.2Ti0.8O3 layers in the bilayered films increased to about 220 K. The bilayered films had a sharp interface between Fe1.2Ti0.8O3 and α-Fe2O 3. The strong magnetic coupling between two layers seemed to increase the TC of the attached Fe1.2Ti0.8O3 layers.
