Magnetic field effects on the susceptibility of the linear antiferromagnet TMMC

Abstract

The susceptibilities of the one-dimensional antiferromagnet (CH3)4NMnCℓ3 (TMMC), χ⊥c and χ//c, for the field perpendicular and parallel to the chain axis are calculated by using a transfer matrix method. In particular, χ⊥c shows anomalous behavior at low temperatures, which is explained in terms of a lowering of the effective spin dimensionality due to the applied field. Comparison with the experimental data confirms firms such a crossover of the effective spin dimensionality in TMMC.
