Abstract

A case of localized amyloidosis of bilateral ureters is reported herein. The patient was a 66-year-old male whose chief complaints were oliguria and edema of the lower extremities and face. Since ultrasonography showed bilateral hydronephrosis, we diagnosed acute post-renal renal failure and performed bilateral nephrostomy. Antegrade pyeloureterography demonstrated stenosis of the bilateral distal ureters. TUR of the ureteral orifice and biopsy of the bladder mucosa were performed. Ureteral catheterization failed because of severe stenosis of the ureters. Pathological examination revealed localized amyloidosis of the bilateral ureters. Localized amyloidosis of the bilateral ureters is a rare disease, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first case to be reported in Japan.
