Knowledge-based pollution control framework for cleaner production plants

Abstract

During the design stage of chemical production plants, it is possible to evaluate and control the pollution on the surrounding environment that might occur during the actual operation. This paper presents knowledge-based framework to evaluate and control possible pollutions during process design. Computer-aided design environment is proposed to enable the design team to define process design model elements and to measure possible pollution at each design step using performance indexes of pollution measures as mapped to process variables.
