This paper proposes a new algorithm for generating wideband speech from its narrow version of the same. The algorithm has two novel features. The first is spectrum envelope reconstruction based on codebook mapping. The other is speech signal reconstruction using the reconstructed spectrum envelope. Evaluation by the acoustic distance measure and by listening tests confirmed the good performance of the algorithm. In addition, a device based on the proposed method was examined, and listening tests showed that its performance was almost equal to the computer simulation.
