N2 - Recently, the flow drag and heat transfer reduction effects in the heat energy transportation system have received considerable attention. Since the viscosity of some brine solutions increase with decreasing temperature, the pumping energy of some brine solutions is large. Therefore, the flow drag and heat transfer reduction effects are effective for some brine solutions The purpose of the present paper is to determine the flow drag and heat transfer reduction characteris-tics of potassium acetate (PA) solution and calcium chloride (CC) solution with flow drag reduction ad-ditive. In this paper, a non-ionic surfactant ODEAO (Oleyldihydroxyetyl Amine Oxide) is used as the flow drag reduction additive. The flow friction coefficient and heat transfer coefficient of each brine so-lution with ODEAO in a straight pipe are investigated experimentally. As a result, it was found that the flow resistance and heat transfer coefficients of PA solution with ODEAO and CC solution with ODEAO were decreased in the turbulent flow range as compared with that of water. However, the flow drag and heat transfer reduction effect of these solutions were measured under the limited conditions, because the rod-like micelles of ODEAO are difficult to be formed in these solutions.
