Abstract
The different material behaviors of driving and driven rolling bodies are explained on the basis of a calculation of their stress states, and it is demonstrated that the wear and the fatigue of the material in the two cases stem from different mechanisms, as a result of which each of these cases requires a separate damage analysis. In addition, the friction and wear behavior of rolling bodies during dry friction and the fatigue phenomenon of pitting in the lubricated state are discussed.
