Development and fundamental experiments of rubber structural color sheet with multi grating patterns

Abstract

Micro structures realize interesting functions, low friction, repellency, hydrophilicity and so on. Diffraction of light, namely structural color, is one of them and is generated by grating structure. We aim to develop a rubber grating sheet which can appear changeable structural color by extending it, and to apply it to rubber pneumatic actuator as a sensor. In previous report, grating sheets having line/space structure were fabricated and fundamental characteristics were confirmed. In this paper, new rubber grating sheets with multi pattern structures, line/space, pillar, and mos-eye, made from silicone rubber are fabricated, and potential of the sheets as strain sensor is confirmed experimentally.
