Abstract

Mechanical and dielectric strength distributions were studied for variously surface-finished TiO 2 ceramics. Roughly finished specimens showed a small Weibull modulus for both kinds of failures, and clear analogies between mechanical and dielectric strength distributions were found in both rough-and fine-surface specimens. The validity of the dielectric strength measuring method as an alternative method to evaluate the structural reliability of brittle ceramics is discussed.
