Abstract
We evaluated the efficacy of combination chemotherapy comprising orally administered UFT (20 mg/kg) with leucovorin (100 mg/kg) against a human prostate carcinoma cell line (PC-3) in nude mice. Our results showed that the combined treatment of UFT and leucovorin against PC-3 was significantly more effective than no therapy, or leucovorin therapy alone (p < 0.1), with only a very small decrease in body-weight being noted in the mice. The histological change of degeneration and/or necrosis was observed in the group receiving the combined therapy. These results suggest that combination chemotherapy comprising UFT with leucovorin may be useful for the treatment of prostatic cancer.
