Abstract

Ti 2p X-ray photoabsorption (XAS) and photoemission (XPS) spectra in formally tetravalent Ti compounds, such as TiC>2 and SrTiC>3, are analyzed by means of a TiC>6 cluster model, where the Ti 3d-0 2p covalency mixing and the multiplet coupling between the Ti 3d and 2p electrons are taken into account. The satellite peaks observed in the Ti 2p XPS and XAS are interpreted els charge-transfer satellites, although they have been ascribed to the exciton satellite due to the excitation from the O 2p to O 3s states so far.
