Abstract
Ba-addition effects on the superconducting properties and the formation of the high-Tc phase in the Bi{single bond}Pb{single bond}Sr{single bond}Ca{single bond}Cu{single bond}O system have been studied. Samples with nominal compositions of Bi:Pb:(Sr1-xBax):Ca:Cu=0.96:0.24:1.0:1.1:1.6 (x=0 to 0.3) were heated at 850°C in air. The Ba-addition promotes the formation of the high-Tc phase. Tc increases from 106 K for Ba-free samples to 112 K for samples with low Ba contents. The Ba-addition leads to an increase in the c-axis length from 37.10 to 37.20 Å. The Ba-substitution site has been discussed on the basis of the results concerning the Ba-doped 2201 phase.
