Abstract

The effects of torsion and curvature on the flow in a helical pipe of square cross section are studied by introducing a non-orthogonal helical coordinate system and series expansion of solution for small curvature. The numerical calculations are obtained by the iterative method. The calculations are carried out for 0 ≤ ε ≤ 0.2, 0 ≤ λ0 ≤ 3.16 and 500 ≤ Dn < 1500, where ε is the dimensionless curvature, λ0 is the ratio of torsion to cubic square root of curvature and Dn is the Dean number.
