Abstract

It is important for an operator support system to generate essential information for situation awareness and recovery actions and to communicate support information effectively to human operators. This study investigates an effective causality explanation interface that can change interactively the level of details of explanation. A model simplification technique called function flow simplification and some empirical simplification rules are used to change the level of details of explanation. A prototype of interactive causality explanation interface is developed and its applicability is confirmed by several examples of causality explanation for a simple system.
