The adsorption isotherm of water, the IR spectra of adsorbed water, and the surface water content were measured on the surface of CaF2. As the result, it was found that the step appears in the adsorption isotherm, being due to the two-dimensional condensation of water, as in the cases of such metal oxides as ZnO, SnO2, and Cr2O3. The step decreased when the sample was heated in vacuo at increasingly elevated temperatures, and became extinct after the treatment at 600°C. Chemisorbed water was present on the surface of CaF2.
