Abstract

Distinct differences in wear and material behaviour of driving and braking bodies are frequently encountered in rolling friction investigations. The possible causes of this phenomenon were studied on the basis of the stress condition present in the rolling bodies. A computer program for calculating the total stress condition from load and heat stresses together with internal stresses was compiled. These investigations show that a knowledge of the total stress condition in a body is necessary for the clarification of material behaviour and hence for research on damage and the optimum choice of material. (A)
