Abstract
A nitronyl nitroxide complex of nickel(II) with nitrate as a ligand was developed. The complex was the first example of transition metal ions having d electrons in which nitrate was coordinated as a bidentate ligand. The compound was prepared from [Ni(No3)2(tmen)],NIT2py and KPF6 and was recrystallized from CH2Cl2/Et2O, producing dark green crystals. The x ray analysis confirmed that nitrate acts as a bidentate ligand in the complex cations.
