Abstract

This paper proposes a new method of compensating harmonic currents under the sott start in wind power generation systems using the hybrid filter, which consists of a passive and small-rated active filters. For the fundamental component, the passive filter behaves a phase-leading capacitor. The small-rated active filter compensates the harmonic currents under the soft start. The basic principle of the proposed compensator is discussed, and then confirmed by digital computer simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC. Simulation results demonstrate that the source currents become sinusoidal waveforms under the soft start.
