A high-resolution soft X-ray photoemission apparatus combined with a laser molecular-beam epitaxy system at SPring-8 BL17SU

Abstract

We have constructed a high-resolution synchrotron-radiation photoemission apparatus combined with a laser molecular-beam epitaxy (laser MBE) system in order to investigate the electronic structure of thin films. The system is installed at the newly-built soft x-ray undulator beamline BL17SU of SPring-8. Single crystal thin films fabricated by laser MBE can be transferred quickly into the photoemission chamber under ultra-high vacuum condition. The photoemission spectrometer is equipped for high-throughput and high energy-resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements. High energy-resolution and stability of the beamline optics enable us to achieve the best total energy resolution of 51 meV at 867 eV excitation. The performance and characteristics of the system is demonstrated by showing results on LaNiO 3 thin films.
