Abstract
A cyclic tetranuclear Cu(II)2Gd(III)2 complex, in which Cu(II) and Gd(III) ions are arrayed alternately, has an S = 8 spin ground state, due to the ferromagnetic spin coupling between S(Gd) = 7/2 and S(Cu) = 1/2.
