Abstract

We report radiological findings of focal splenic extramedullary hematopoiesis in a 30's-year-old male. On MRI, two splenic masses partially showed decrease in signal intensity on in-phase T1 weighted GRE images compared with opposed-phase images suggesting hemosiderin depositon. A histopathological diagnosis of extramedullary hematopoiesis was made on the surgical specimen. Focal splenic extramedullary hematopoiesis is rare and its preoperative diagnosis is difficult But MRI would be helpful in its diagnosis by confirmation of iron deposition within the lesion.
